The NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Board (NASPCB)
The NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Board (NASPCB) is a separately functioning entity established to oversee the NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Program and to separate the roles and responsibilities between the NASP/IASP, Inc. Board of Directors and the NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Program to maintain impartiality and neutrality. The Certification Board operates independently to establish and uphold high standards of competence for workplace safety professionals, to evaluate professionals against those standards, and to increase safety in the workplace through the CSD and MSP credentials.
With strategic oversight from the Executive Board, the NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Board was established to set the standards and qualifications for individuals who practice specific disciplines within the workplace safety profession; to establish voluntary certification testing of applicants who meet or exceed the training, educational, and professional experience requirements set by the Certification Board; to annually review, and if necessary, revise the standards and qualifications, as well as the Board’s provisions in the NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Program Operations Manual and NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Program Candidate Handbook.

NASPCB Statement of Impartiality
In keeping with the mission of providing a fair and inclusive educational program for workplace safety professionals, the NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Board (NASPCB) maintains a strict policy and procedure to ensure complete impartiality in its operation of the NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Program.
The NASP/IASP, Inc. Certification Board (NASPCB), Certification Personnel, and NASP/IASP, Inc. staff understand the importance of impartiality and conflicts in the management of certification activities. When undertaking dealings with members and non-members, all involved in the certification process will maintain a high level of ethical conduct and avoid conflicts of interest in connection with the performance of their duties. There shall be an avoidance of any actions and/or commitments that might create the appearance of impartiality to:
The Certification Board (NASPCB), Certification Personnel, and NASP/IASP, Inc. staff monitor all potential threats to its impartiality and document all actions.
Exam Development and Maintenance Volunteers Needed
The NASPCB relies on a group of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who are qualified in the field of workplace safety to assist in the development and maintenance for the CSD and MSP examinations. The CSD and MSP examinations reflect the most current knowledge and skills required to keep people protected.
To safeguard our exams and to assure that the examinations are consistent with the corresponding body of knowledge necessary to achieve mastery in the field of workplace safety, the SMEs participate in the following activities:
Job and Task Analysis Specify the exam and identify domains, tasks, and knowledge and skill statements that will be used to create the draft examination blueprint.
Item Writing: Develop, assess, validate, update, and format questions/items.
Standards/ Passing Score: Establish and maintain performance standards and examination scores. Review examination results to ensure scores reflect reliability and proficiency that are appropriate for the content and level of each examination activities.
In addition to the CSD and MSP exams, other exams are currently under consideration for development. Participants must hold a CSM, SDC/CSD, or SPC/LSP, certificate or the CSD or MSP certification to participate in Exam Development activities.
