Employees at a wide range of worksites risk exposure to human bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens like HIV and hepatitis. With our Bloodborne Pathogens and First Aid Treatment Specialist course, you’ll learn how to mitigate these risks by creating a bloodborne pathogens safety plan that complies with OSHA standards and protects your staff.

BPS Course Overview

Students enrolled in bloodborne pathogens safety training courses from The National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP) gain a comprehensive understanding of these agents and the risks associated with exposure to human bodily fluids like blood. This course covers information about the common infectious pathogens, how exposure occurs and how to respond to potential exposures.

Our bloodborne pathogens safety program also covers:

  • Universal precautions to prevent pathogen exposure.
  • Proper personal protective equipment procedures.
  • How to create a bloodborne pathogens exposure control plan.
  • OSHA regulations and compliances for exposure to infectious materials.

Specialists who complete the BPS curriculum will be able to develop and implement plans that meet national safety compliance standards for workplace bloodborne pathogens exposure risks. They’ll prevent exposures through safety precautions and procedures and have strategies in place for treatment if someone is exposed.

The BPS course takes about 8 hours to complete depending on your existing knowledge of bloodborne pathogens and workplace safety.

Upon successful completion of this topic, the student will have the knowledge, skills and abilities to:
