When a piece of industrial equipment needs to be serviced or repaired, lockout tagout (LOTO) procedures help protect employees and prevent injuries by ensuring the machine is disabled. A lockout tagout specialist is specifically trained to understand the regulations surrounding these procedures and develop plans to implement LOTO in the workplace.

LTS Course Overview

The NASP Lockout Tagout training course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of LOTO procedures in industrial environments. Students learn about the six proper steps for LOTO, developing a hazardous energy control program (HECP) and identifying proper EIDs and LOTO devices to ensure worker safety.

Students who complete this course will be able to understand when LOTO procedures should be applied and have a comprehensive plan for executing LOTO efficiently and effectively. Other topics covered in this course include:

  • The definition and six-step process of proper LOTO.
  • Exceptions to the rules.
  • LOTO and energy isolation devices.
  • How to write and implement LOTO programs.
  • Group LOTO.
  • OSHA regulations and interpretations.

This lockout tagout training program takes 13 hours to complete, depending on your existing familiarity with the topic.

  • Continuing Education Units

    (1.30) CEUs are offered for this course. As an IACET Accredited Provider, NASP offers IACET CEUs for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard. CEUs will be reflected on the Certificate upon successful completion of the course and passing the exam. Partial credit or adjusted CEUs will not be awarded for individuals who do not successfully meet the criteria for achievement of CEUs.

  • Online Exams

    The student will take a comprehensive online exam at the end of the course. You must score 80% to receive a certificate. You have two opportunities to pass the exam.

  • Recertification

    A refresher course and exam will be required every three (3) years. The cost of this recertification is $150.
